The Zombie King and Cataclysm Level
The pre-release preview described the cataclysm enemy as the Zombie King, about six meters tall, and two ways to play: hold the line against waves at set intervals, or go on the offensive against Cataclysm Events that spawn around the map. If the Zombie King is not killed before the countdown ends, the world’s Cataclysm Level rises and zombies gain new mutations. Preview, Oct 2026 The developer warned that details could change before release, so treat this as the design intent until confirmed in 1.0.
Preparing between horde nights
The notes describe the mode as balancing farming, building and exploring. In practice that means a food supply that does not depend on scavenging (farming), walls without a weak point (base building), and turrets that do not run you out of ammo (turrets). Respawning where you fall means a death costs time, not the run.
What changes compared with Standard Mode
Reviewers describe Cataclysm as working against a schedule: instead of exploring when you feel ready, every choice between attacks matters, and a base is not finished just because it looks impressive. Players report Standard Mode lets you set your own pace and ends with an escape; Cataclysm has no escape, so the score is purely how many days in a row you last. Official Since your character carries between worlds, the skills you built in Standard come with you. Official
