ZED ZONE co-op multiplayer guide

Co-op was the most requested feature through three years of Early Access and arrived with 1.0. You can bring your own save and character, and the host’s mods come along automatically.

  • Up to 8 players (4 by default; 4 max in Horde Mode).
  • Join by 6-digit code, room list, Steam invite or LAN.
  • Guests do not save the host’s world.

ZED ZONE co-op basics

PlayersUp to 8; 4 by default and the host can raise it. Horde Mode allows up to 4. Official
TypeCo-op PvE: you play together against the island. The host can turn on friendly fire. Official Players treat it as PvE. Players report
ModesStandard, Horde and Cataclysm all support teams. Official
ConnectionDirect, with an automatic fallback to the official relay server when a direct link fails. LAN co-op is listed on the store. Official

How to join a ZED ZONE co-op game

  • 6-digit room code from the host. Official
  • Public room list. Since 1.0.4 it filters by mode (Standard / Horde / Cataclysm), can hide locked and full rooms, loads faster, and no longer shows only a few rooms. Official
  • Steam friend invite or LAN. Official
  • Rooms can have a password. Official

Saves and characters in co-op

  • The host can open a room with their own single-player save. Official
  • Joining players can make a new character or bring one from single-player, with backpack, gear and skills, because characters are saved apart from worlds. Official
  • Guests do not save the host’s world, and neither does Horde Mode. Since 1.0.4 the save panel says so. Official What happens to a guest character who dies in someone else’s world is not covered in the notes.

Playing together

  • Downed, not dead: when you go down, a teammate can revive you (hold F). Official See downed and revive.
  • Mods: the host’s mods sync to joining players automatically. Official See mods.
  • The Far Island: you can sail there together. Official See Far Island and ending.
  • Split the work: the developer pictures one player scavenging while another guards the base or farms. Official

Known co-op problems

1.0.4 fixed characters spawning in water when respawning or joining, and characters losing their body in co-op with only head accessories visible. Official Chinese players report desync where one player can act and the other cannot. Unverified If a room will not connect, try the room list instead of the code, and report through the Feedback Center so your log is attached. Official

Buying ZED ZONE for co-op

Two 1.0 videos agree on the shape of co-op: normal survival supports up to 8 players with 4 by default, characters carry between worlds, and Horde Mode is the quickest thing to play as a group. Players report The same reviewer suggests groups buying only for co-op wait a little while it settles, since it launched the same week. 1.0 review 1.0.4, released the day after launch, already reworked the room list. Official

For a first session as a group: the host creates the world (or opens a single-player save), everyone brings or makes a character, turn friendly fire off, and agree who carries medicine, since only a teammate can revive you. Official
