ZED ZONE power guide: generators, solar and wiring
Power runs turrets, fences, furnaces, 3D printers and a fridge in your backpack. It comes from generators, solar panels and batteries, and it moves through electric poles. Here is where each piece comes from and how they connect.
- Motorized Zombies drop portable generators (fixed March 2026).
- Solar panels charge Energy Storage Modules by day.
- An electric pole links a generator to a 3D printer.
ZED ZONE power sources
| Source | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Portable Gasoline Generator (ID 41) | Dropped by Motorized Zombies; found as loot. | The March 2026 patch fixed these zombies not dropping generators. Official Runs on fuel. |
| Stirling generator | Built. | Powers the Electric Fence; can be switched on and off since Beta 0.9.99.8.15. Official Players say it burns wood. Unverified |
| Solar panels + Energy Storage Modules | “Solar Power” skill node. | Panels generate by day, surplus goes into the modules, and modules discharge automatically when power runs short. Official |
| Batteries | Loot; recharged at a Charging Station or charger. | AAA, AA, C, 9V, integrated, vehicle battery and the High-Power Battery Module (IDs 80–86). Official |
Energy Storage Modules got double capacity and faster charging in Beta 0.9.99.9.1, and idle devices now draw only a little standby power. Official
How to connect a generator to a 3D printer
The 3D printer and the battery Charging Station became buildable in Beta 0.70. Official The in-game hint is thin, and the most-replied power thread is exactly this question. Players who got it working describe:
- Build the generator and the 3D printer.
- Build an electric pole close to both; its cables link the generator to the printer. Players report
- Put fuel in the generator (wood, for the generator they used) and switch it on. Unverified
If a powered station goes dead after loading, update: Beta 0.9.98 fixed furnaces, conveyors, charging stations, generators and 3D printers failing after a load. Official Production on the furnace and 3D printer also keeps running while their panel is open. Official
What uses power
- Electric Furnace: smelts three times faster than the stone furnace. Official
- Appliances skill: electric heaters and electric stoves. Official
- Electric Fence: 100W per segment since Beta 0.9.99.9.7 (was 300W). Official
- Laser and Tesla turrets: run on a High-Power Battery Module. Official See turrets.
- Electric forklift and the self-driving car: run on car batteries. Official
The eight portable appliances
Beta 0.9.97 renamed the old lighting slot to Handheld Device, so you can carry one device besides a light. The “Portable Appliances” skill node unlocks all eight recipes at once, and each can also be found. Official
| Appliance | Use |
|---|---|
| Portable mini fridge | Fit a car battery; slows food spoiling in your backpack. |
| Portable induction stove | Put it down and it is a cooking station; pick it up after. |
| Electric kettle | Boils raw water into clean water. |
| Portable charging box / solar charging box | Charges batteries; hovering highlights every battery in your bag. |
| Electric air pump | Inflates tires from the vehicle panel without removing them. |
| Hand warmer / cooling fan | Slowly raises or lowers body temperature, then switches off. |
A dot on powered items shows their state: green running, yellow standby, red no power. Official
A power build order that works
- Batteries first. Flashlights take C or 9V batteries depending on the model; keep spares. Official The electric kettle needs a big battery to boil 2000 ml. Unverified
- A generator and a pole. A Motorized Zombie’s generator or a built one, plus an electric pole to link stations. Players report
- Charging station and 3D printer. Both need the broken smart phone; the printer also needs 10 CNC components and glass. Players report See crafting stations.
- Solar and storage through the Solar Power node, so the base keeps running when you are out. Official
- Defenses last: fence segments at 100W each and battery-module turrets. Official
Placed electric lamps have hurt players who walk right next to them since they were added, two players report. Players report Keep floor lamps out of walkways.
